Zoobiquity: The Astonishing Connection Between Human and Animal Health

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

I was recently listening to one of my favorite podcasts, TED Talks when I came upon the following talk.

What veterinarians know that physicians don’t.

I found this interesting and inspiring. In my career, quite a few times a client wished to express gratitude and admiration. In so doing, they have said something to this effect. “You did a great job with my dog. You should have become a ‘real doctor'”.  I knew what they meant. It was given and taken as a real compliment. But after listening to this Board Certified cardiologist, you come away with a different impression about the veterinary profession.

I don’t claim to know as much or be as skilled as an M.D. But I know that I wouldn’t trade places with one of them either. With insurance headaches, the Affordable Care Act and government red tape and a myriad of other concerns, I am grateful to be doing just what I get to do on a daily basis. We all go from being internists to radiologists, then surgeons and dentists, then grief counselors and mentors.  What a blessed profession I am a part of. And best of all is that we get to deal with the most wonderful clients and pets every day.

Happy New Year from Dr. Ron Tenney and Oasis Animal Hospital!
