Common methods of giving Adequan injections at Oasis Animal Hospital
Updated: Dec 9, 2021

Several years ago, we began to offer Adequan for our clients to administer to their own pets as an in-home treatment option. The advantages of this were twofold.
Ease of use. Usually the pets needing Adequan injections were older, larger patients that were difficult to load, transport and treat in the clinic twice weekly.
Cost – By providing Adequan as an in-home treatment, we were able to reduce the cost for our clients as well.
The usual protocol for Adequan is to give the calculated dose as an injection twice weekly for four weeks. After four weeks, approximately 70% of both our dog and cat patients are significantly more mobile and pain-free.
After completing the 4 week treatment series, if a patient has improved significantly, we recommend ongoing injections as needed. Typically that means that the frequency will decrease to once every 1-2 weeks and then it may be possible to further decrease the frequency of the injections. This pet may need to remain on injectable Adequan for the rest of his life.
